Biography
Dr. Emily Lembeck assumed the office of Marietta City Schools
(MCS) Superintendent on July 1, 2005, becoming just the 12th superintendent –
and first female superintendent – in the system’s 113-year history, leading the
Marietta City Schools’ 12 schools, approximately 8,000 students and 1,300
employees.
Dr. Lembeck served as Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and
Operations of Marietta City Schools from 2001 until her appointment to the
superintendence in 2005. In that role, she was responsible for the school
system’s overall instructional program. Before her successful career in school
administration, she dedicated eleven years to the classroom as a teacher in

contributions, Dr. Lembeck was most recently named Woman of the Year 2008 by the Cobb Chapter of the American
Association of University Women. She was also recently named one of the 75 Notable Women in Cobb by the Junior
League of Cobb-Marietta – 75th Anniversary (2008). In 2006, she was named Cobb County Boys & Girls Club 2006 Board Member
of the Year for her work as a strong youth and community advocate,
and she earned the 2006 Willie Hill
Leadership Award for contributions to the
