Child and Adolescents
Cobb and Douglas Counties Community Services
Boards are pleased to offer a program for children and adolescents
called Next Steps. The Next Steps program provides mental health
and substance abuse services for children and adolescents.
Services are child centered and family focused with an emphasis
on individualized and accessible treatment for young
people and their families. We accept Medicaid, PeachCare, or other
Insurance and can also make other financial arrangements using a
self-pay sliding fee scale. For services, call 770-422-0202 and
ask for NEXT STEPS.
In order to meet the needs of the young people
we serve, Next Steps utilizes an interdisciplinary team comprised
of child and adolescent psychiatrists and more than 30 experienced
counselors, social workers, psychologists, nurses and community
support workers. After a thorough evaluation, a child or adolescent
may receive services at multiple locations in the two counties.
Following the comprehensive assessment
of a young person's psychological, social, emotional and family
needs a treatment plan is developed. Each child or adolescent
then receives services in accordance with his/her unique needs
and potentials. The range of available Outpatient Services include:
Individual counseling - focused on younger
children
This program provides teenagers
struggling with substance abuse or chemical dependence the education
and support needed to develop coping skills to deal effectively
with emotions, problems and stress without the use of alcohol
or drugs. There is an emphasis on developing a healthy recovery
support system. The program also focuses on developing healthy
relationships, anger management, communication and social skills.
The hours are flexible to meet the needs of the adolescent.
