Saturday, June 28th, The LifeLine Project hosted “Know Your Status and Healthcare Screening Event” which was located at Cobb Recovery Center. The event was held in honor of National HIV Testing Day. The event highlighted health care services and information to assist guests in being their best selves. The event also allowed Cobb/Douglas CSB and LifeLine Project to highlight many of the collaborations the agency has established over the years.
In addition to HIV testing, which was conducted by AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) who provided testing to adults, and Westcare, who provided testing to adolescents, health screenings for cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure were conducted by Wellstar.
The event provided the Cobb/Douglas CSB the opportunity to collaborate with various partners to highlight services to the community. Our participating vendors included Wellcare Insurance, Preferred Personnel and Goodwill of NorthWest GA, who provided employment opportunities, Someone Care, specializing in services to the LGBTQ Community, Cobb County NAACP, The Breast Center and Nichell Fox, providing Breast Cancer Information, Dodd Enterprises, sharing information about the Affordable Care Act, Marietta Police Department and Zion Baptist Church. In addition to the vendor services, the event provided face painting to children of all ages, educational sessions to increase HIV awareness, a red carpet and CSB backdrop, to provide a special picture taking opportunity for the inner celebrity in all of us and a cooling station for those needing to escape the temperatures. The CSB programs that were also present during this event were Bright Changes, The Clubhouse and Mothers Making A Change (MMAC).
The event allowed us to provide services to 112 adults and adolescents. A total of 51 people took advantage of the testing through AHF. Wellstar reported that 50 people received health screening through their services.
Without our volunteers and donations we would have not been able to pull of such a successful event. We had volunteers from Kennesaw State University, Mercer University, 100 Black Women of Northwest Georgia, the Atlanta Chapter of The Red Pump Project and the Chi Gamma Gamma chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Our event received generous donations from the following organizations; Turner Chapel AME, Pleasant Grove MBC, Zaxbys, McDonald’s, Chick-Fil-A, Target, Mayfield Ice Cream, Walmart, ThinkZilla Consulting, and Congressman David Scott. Our neighboring sites, First Landmark Bank and the Elizabeth Porter Recreation Center, provided our guests with off-site parking.
